The open-air concert series Moonlight Concerts started on the initiative of the Liszt-Prize-winner pianist Endre Hegedűs and his wife in 1999. Their ambition was to offer domestic and foreign music lovers refreshing, genuinely enjoyable musical experiences after the hot hours of the day in the heart of Budapest. The court of the County Hall of Pest with its picturesque environment, historic atmosphere and excellent acoustics has a unique mood. In case of bad weather the concerts take place in the magnificent hall on the first floor. Music lovers intent on listening to the masterpieces of the great classical composers in an atmosphere of intimacy and in a high-standard performance have been regular visitors to this popular summer concert series.
Hungarian Piano Quartet
Two married couples, four pianists: Endre and Katalin Hegedűs as well as Zsolt Farkas and Andrea Várnagy find pleasure in playing music together. Their first joint public appearance took place within the Moonlight Concerts in 2005. In their concerts they play not only works for piano eight hands but also compositions of the music literature for piano duet and two pianos. Their performances have always been received to great acclaim. This inspired the artists to be even more absorbed in and devoted to their common work.
